I’ve been thinking a lot about how much Lindenhurst depends on the Long Island Rail Road station for day-to-day life. For a lot of us, the station isn’t just a commute stop — it shapes where people choose to live, how they plan errands, and even how they think about being connected to the rest of Long Island and New York City.
Between the station area, the local roads feeding into it, and the parking situation around the village, it always feels like there’s a small balancing act going on. Some mornings it seems smooth; other times the whole area feels like it was built for a different era. That’s probably true of a lot of South Shore towns, but it feels especially noticeable here because Lindenhurst still has such a walkable village center nearby.
“The station is more than a stop — it’s part of how Lindenhurst functions as a village.”
I’m wondering how other residents are handling it lately. Do you mostly walk, get dropped off, bike, or drive and park? And for those who live closer to Montauk Highway or the village side streets, do you think the station area works well enough, or does it need changes to better match how people actually move around here?
Personally, I think Lindenhurst has a real chance to make the area around the station feel more connected to the village instead of just commuter-focused. Would love to hear what others think would improve it most — parking, sidewalks, bike access, or just better coordination with the surrounding streets.
