One thing I keep noticing about St. Johns is how it manages to feel settled without feeling sleepy. Whether you’re driving along County Road 210, stopping near Durbin Crossing, or heading toward the newer growth around Race Track Road, there’s this mix of polished suburban planning and old North Florida openness that feels very specific to here.
What stands out to me most is how much daily life seems to revolve around little routines: the school pickup line, the grocery run, the evening walk in a neighborhood with ponds and sidewalks, or a quick drive over to the St. Johns Town Center area when you need something bigger. It’s not dramatic, but in a good way. For a lot of us, that’s exactly why we stay.
Places that feel especially “St. Johns” to me
- Durbin Crossing for the neighborhood feel and all the families out walking in the evenings.
- Julington Creek for the older, established side of the county and the sense that people have really put down roots there.
- CR 210 for the stretch that seems to capture the whole growth story of the area in one drive.
- The back roads and preserve edges near the St. Johns River, where you can still catch a bit of the quieter Florida that was here before all the expansion.
I’m curious how other people experience the area now: do you think St. Johns still feels like a close-knit set of neighborhoods, or is it becoming more of a pass-through suburb tied to Jacksonville? I’d love to hear what places still feel most local to you—whether that’s a park, a school zone, a corner store, or even just one particular stretch of road.
